He operated under numerous aliases\u2014suspected by some to be a spy, dismissed by others as a charlatan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the passage of years, he kept the same appearance, earning him a reputation as \u201cimmortal.\u201d He spoke several languages fluently and was a virtuoso on the violin and piano. He painted and formulated his own pigments, of unparalleled quality and color.
